The excitement level is high at the Aquarium at Rockport Harbor.  On Oct. 3, 2011 ground was broken for the new  education center being built behind the Aquarium.  Aransas County residents made the construction of this two-story building possible by voting for this venue tax project in a special election held in May 2010.
 
The new building will house be the place where multi-media presentations can be made, and groups functions can be held.  The handicap-accessible building will have a deck jutting into the harbor area.  Upstairs there will be office space for the education director/aquarium administrator.  Claudia Dorn has been selected as Education Coordinator/Administrator.  She began work, October 3rd.
 
The building's nautical theme will fit in with it's harbor location.  The approxiamately 1500 square foot lower level includes a handicap friendly restroom and storage rom along with all the media equipment (surround sound speakers, blue ray DVD players, media center computer, audio/video system, video alarm system, LED's and TVs
 
A March 15, 2012 date is set for the opening of the new education center.
