Sea Grass Eco System

The sea grasses that grow in our local bays are a very critical part of the environment that nourishes our marine life.  These grasses provide protection for small fish, shrimp, etc.  In turn, the game fish that most fisherman seek feed on the marine life protected by these grasses.  A large area, know generally as Redfish Bay, is posted and use constrained to limit damage from outboard motor propellors.  More information on this critical bay feature and the goals and more detailed description of the protected area are available in the Aquarium.  Located in front of the east overhead door in the Aquarium is a tank that features living sea grass and is shown below.  This tank typically contains seahorses and pipefish.
